Prof. Valsamma Joseph

Director

Prof. Valsamma Joseph is currently serving as the Director of National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health and the Course Coordinator for M.Tech. Marine Biotechnology programme sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. She was awarded Ph.D. in Environmental Studies on the thesis entitled ‘Algae in Industrial Effluent Treatment’ from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala (1998). She is a Postgraduate in Environmental Studies from School of Environmental Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (1990-1993) and graduate in Botany from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala (1987-1990).

Her research interests are in marine algal biotechnology for various applications including biofules, aquatic animal nutrition and the control of microbial pathogens in aquaculture; algal genomics; cell and developmental biology of marine macroalgae; aquatic environment health management; and understanding the biogeochemical cycling of nitrogen in aquatic ecosystems through metagenomic approaches.
