Establishment of embryonic stem cells from orange spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides) as germ line transmission platform, and strain improvement through genome editing.

 

The present study involves

  • Isolation of embryonic stem cells from E. coioides embryos.
  • Standardization of culture media, media supplements and culture conditions.
  • Characterization of the developed ES cells.
  • CRISPR/Cas9 based genome editing (mstn knockout lines).
  • Germ line transmission, developmental biology and assessment of for genetic improvement.
  • Capacity building in the area of Genome editing and germline transmission in fishes.

Awards/ Honours:

  • 2nd rank in MSc Biological Oceanography and Biodiversity (MSc Marine
    Biology) from Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Panangad.
  • Participated in the ship cruise for two times on research/survey vessels Sindhu Sankalp (south – west coast of India) and Sindhu Sadhana (sothern Bay of Bengal) dedicated on the studies of primary productivity, mesozooplankton, benthos, economically important fishes, water qualities and sediment qualities etc. for 30 days and involved in onboard
    sampling and analysis.

Co-curricular Activities

  • Sung 5 songs in devotional music albums and won prizes in solo and group music competitions in school, college and university levels.
  • Participated for two times in Guruvayur Chembai Sangeetholsavam.
