Quorum quenching molecules from marine cyanobacteria against Vibrio harveyi for application in aquaculture

Vibrio harveyi is a causative agent of “Vibriosis”, one of the common diseases which lead to huge economic losses in the aquaculture sector. Quorum sensing ability of the bacteria makes them more resistant to various eradication methods. The inhibition of quorum sensing has been explored in an attempt to reduce the ability of cells to form biofilm, leading to lose in virulence. Therefore, the discovery of biomolecules from marine microbial community, which can quench quorum sensing and inhibit luminescence, shall pave the way for developing antipathogenic drugs, which turn out to be sustainable solution to the luminescence vibriosis, which is still prevailing in marine aquaculture systems, especially in crustaceans.
