Bioprospecting for antimicrobial natural products from marine biological resources

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest threats to global public health. It is of significant concern in developing nations, including India, where the spread and prevalence of infectious diseases are very high.A general approach to counter antibiotic resistance is to introduce new molecules into the treatment pipeline to replace ineffectiveones. There are numerous suitable natural sources for the discovery of new potentially bioactive molecules but marine ecosystem, harboring a wide variety of organisms, is becoming a top spot for the identification of new drug leads. Our study focuses on the discovery of antimicrobial metabolites from marine biologicals against microbial pathogens using Mycobacterium smegmatis as a model organisms.
